Wound Care Training for Health Care Assistants

This programme has been developed for Health care assistants (HCAs) to enable them to undertake treatments and dressings related to the care of lesions and wounds under the supervision of a suitably registered practitioner
The development programme comprises training, observation, supervision and assessment of clinical practice, combined with the development of a portfolio of evidence (that may be used towards NVQ unit CHS12). Formative and summative assessment activities are cross- referenced to both the NVQ unit and KSF HWB7/level 2, HWB5/level 2 to demonstrate competence. The assessment tool includes an expert witness practical assessment for the supervising practitioner.
The interactive training day has been designed to meet the specific needs of this staff group. Whilst highly practical, the activities have been put together to enable HCAs understand the limits of their role and test out their ability to discern when they must refer to the delegating registered practitioner.
