Marianne Micallef MA VS (CSSD)

I specialize in Voice Training and coach people who for whatever reason need to improve their speech skills.

The work I do ranges from aspects of voice care/hygiene, projection, clarity of speech and accent softening or dialect training and techniques for presentations. The format varies from individual one-to-one coaching sessions to workshop days, seminars and presentations.

For the last few years I have worked with BSkyB on their Feel Karma events to promote vocal health in the work place. This has included presentations and ‘voice awareness’ days to discuss issues affecting Call Centre staff, as well as day to day voice maintenance of all professionals including presenters, commentators and reporters.

I led a voice training workshop for Collingham Healthcare Education Centre (CHEC) as part of their 2 day conference for practice managers. We covered elements of active listening, expression, clarity of voice, pace of utterance and also including tips on how to keep your voice in good shape.

The main focus of voice training is to find a truthful voice by building upon a person’s self-awareness and sensory knowledge through physiological and imaginative exercises

Sometimes the communication of intentions can be hindered by a voice that is not working as well as it could; my aim is to improve this process so that words spoken have the right impact on the listener.

The first port of call is addressing physical tensions within the body and finding ways of releasing unhelpful muscular tight spots in order to free the breath flow and encourage a natural healthy manner of breathing.

Gentle yoga exercises and very simple aspects of postural alignment as per the Alexander Technique are used to enable this process.

My work is eclectic, holistic and draws upon various technical and creative speech skill practices. ,

I am a member of the British Voice Association and the International Centre for Voice keeping myself up to date with developments in the voice world both medically and artistically.

Understanding both the science; the physiology of voice production and the creative/artistic fundamentals are paramount to the success of a person's voice in my opinion.

After training as a dancer, actor and then working in TV doing voiceovers I obtained a masters degree in Voice Studies from The Central School of Speech and Drama.

I draw upon my background of movement and text in action to address matters relating to the voice. Whether that is how someone stands, breathes or even factors in their lifestyle as a whole.

My current affiliations exist with The Questors Theatre, King Street College, Group 56 Theatre Company and various business corporations.

I teach regularly in London and have coached plays at various London theatres.

Whatever the project I would be very happy to discuss it further without obligation, please email me using the contact form and we can arrange a telephone call.

I look forward to hearing from you
